To ensure the continued dominance of Ferrari in GT racing, the company realised they needed a completely new car. Based on the astonishingly successful 250P but with the addition of, most notably, a roof, the Ferrari 250 LM was born |
| |
The car made it's debut at the 1963 Paris Motorshow but didn't go into production until 1964, the main difference being the engine displacement. Based on the 250 GTO's 3.0 litre engine, the production LM used a unit bored out to 3.3 litres. |
| |
The 250 LM only ever raced in the prototype class as it never reached the FIA's required number of 100 units sold to be eligible for other races. 32 examples of the 250 LM were produced. |
| |
Even though the 250 LM was pitched against more sophisticated machinery in the prototype class, it still won some memorable races and gave Ferrari it's last overall Le Mans win |
