Ferrari 599 GTB

Ferrari 599 GTB

The Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano was designed by Pininfarina, the Italian car design firm located in Turin, Italy.  It debuted in 2007 as a two-seater Gran Turismo that replaced Ferrari’s 575M Maranello.  The 599 GTB is named for its 5,999 cubic centimeter engine displacement.

Though the 599 GTB Fiorano resembles the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti in some ways, it has a very distinctive stance that is more aggressive and sportier in nature.  The 599 GTB Fiorano does share the same space frame chassis with the 612 Scaglietti, however.  A space frame consists of interlocking struts that comprise a geometric structure that is lightweight and truss-like in appearance.  The aluminum body is welded onto the space frame for extra rigidity and performance.  The Fiorano’s aluminium chassis was developed by Ferrari in conjunction with Alcoa, the aluminum structure manufacturer.

The 599 GTB Fiorano boasts a 6.0 liter V12 engine that exerts 611 horse power and 448 ft lbf torque, making it the most powerful production Ferrari manufactured.  Top speed for the 599 GTB is claimed by the company to surpass 205 miles per hour (330 kilometers per hour) and can reach 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in 3.7 seconds and 124 miles per hour (200 kilometers per hour) in 11 seconds flat.

The Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano also has CST that, when engaged, switches the car automatically into all-wheel drive delivering more traction and a smoother ride.  It also has a 6-speed sequential manual gearbox.

The Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano was named as Evo Magazine’s “Car of the Year” for 2006 despite heavy competition from both Lamborghini and Porsche.  Top Gear also named the Fiorano as their “Supercar of the Year” for 2006 but lost out to the Jaguar XK as “Car of the Year.”  The GTB Fiorano also has an iPod-ready connection to the car’s stereo system, which is a first for Ferrari.
